Week 6 in Puerto Montt, Chile

30 May 2016

Hola!!

Things didn’t go as planned this week and Jorge was not baptized. We are not exactly sure what happened, but he said he had work and will be getting baptized this week! I’ve learned a lot of patience this week! It’s been a hard week, no one wants to listen to us and we just walk for miles and miles!

Monday we had another good leccion with Maria and Narayeth! They are so cute! She wants to get baptized, so we will continue to teach and pray!

Tuesday we had lunch with the Spolman’s! Can I just say that they are the sweetest humans! They are both almost 90 and Hermano Spolman has really bad shakes and he still is just so happy and always jokes with us! Hermana Spolman is the best cook ever!!!! I had Pastel de Choclo for the first time and it was HEAVEN!!! Oh my goodness, soooo good! Literally the food is amazing! She is the best cook and reminds me of my sweet Grandma’s! Their kids are gone, but they are always so happy and sweet. Some of the greatest people I have met! I’ll send a pic!

Wednesday we had our last District Meeting together because Transfers are this week! So I may get a new Trainer or I could be with Hermana Schroeder for another Transfer! I will be happy either way because it’s what Heavenly Father wants.

Thursday our lunch fell through and so during lunch we watched Gordon B Hinckley’s 95th Birthday Broadcast hahaha, it was soooo good! He was an amazing Prophet! We watch some great things on our huge TV that is like 5 inches!

Saturday the Elders in our Ward had a baptism, so we went to that and it was good!!! Makes me sooo happy to see people baptized and to see their happiness!

Last night we had a leccion with Familia Carnales and it was sooo fun! I found a talk from the Liahona and it was so good, just about enduring to the end! They are waiting for her divorce with her first husband to go through. so that they can get baptized, they are the best! She is also an amazing cook! Literally in food heaven here! This week has been so hard just walking and walking and walking and no one wanting the gospel... BUT IT’S OKAY I’M HAPPY AND BECOMING MORE CONVERTED EVERYDAY! I love being a Missionary and just being here experiencing a different culture and meeting amazing people like the sweet Spolman’s! Love you all and just be happy!

Week 5 in Puerto Montt, Chile

Jorge is getting baptized on Saturday!!! So excited for him!! Another amazing week here in Chile!

Tuesday: All of the Missionaries had to go get a flu shot and Hermana Schroeder does not like shots, but all went well, haha. I love when we get together with our Zone!

Wednesday: So we were headed to go get our laundry from a lady in our Ward, and we start walking down the street and this dog just starts barking like crazy at us and then it just starts running at us full speed! So I just start running and I hit into Hermana and the phone drops out of her hand... and neither of us go to pick it up and we just run... it was so bad, but we get to the end of the street and just start laughing from fear, hahaha. Then this lady starts walking down the street and we asked her for help, but she just ignored us and then she picked up our phone and went to her house hahaha. So then we walk down there and the lady gives our phone back so all was good! Gonna laugh back on that experience forever hahaha. So sick of dogs!

Every Wednesday we meet up with Pamela and she is the cutest lady and this week we played some games with her boys! She is waiting to get married and then will be baptized, she is such an amazing lady and loves the gospel!

Thursday: We had a leccion with Maria, Narayeth, and Alex! Hermano Ivo came with us and we had such a good leccion on the Restoration. I felt the Spirit so strong! And all three of them said they would be baptized if they prayed and received an answer!! Whooo! Narayeth is the sweetest girl ever! Feel so blessed to have found them! We have a leccion with them tonight so I will keep you updated!!

Friday: We had our English classes and then we went and played some basketball and Hermana Mirtha thinks I am the greatest basketball player ever, haha she is so funny!
Saturday: So we are in a collectivo headed down to Centro to catch a bus to go to lunch and all of a sudden we see a bunch of Protestors and Marchers and the collectivo Driver was like oh no. So yeah the President of Chile spoke and all of Chile was freaking out because of the fish problem! I don’t know if you guys have heard about it but it’s really bad. Anyways, there were protestors everywhere. Hermana was freaking out, but I thought it was cool. Haha oh good ole Chile. (Don’t be too jealous of my country pictures this week. Chile is beautiful!!!!)

Sunday: Gave my first talk... People told me I did well, but I think they are just joking. My topic was Nosotro compromiso con Dios! I found a good talk from a General Conference and it was good, but I was so nervous right before! We spent a lot of the day tracting and then went to Jaime’s house whose son comes to our English class! He is the coolest guy ever... He is a lawyer and has traveled to so many places and his house is amazing! We left him with a Plan of Salvation pamphlet and will be teaching him later! Soooo excited! He is amazing and sooo nice! We are so excited to have him as a new investigator!

Ever week is different here and just so good!  Thank you all for your love and support! Send me letters! Chile is amazing and I feel so blessed! This gospel is amazing and missionary work is amazing!

Week 4 in Puerto Montt, Chile

What another amazing week here in Southern Chile!

Tuesday: We were wrapping up our studies and then we get a call from our new investigator Kati who I have talked about before... and she calls and tells us that she is coming to pick us up in five minutes, so we hurry and got ready. We were so excited because we NEVER get picked up by members, let alone investigators haha. We went to her house and it was beautiful, like nothing I have seen here in Chile, just super modern, like seriously beautiful!! We talked to her about the Plan of Salvation, and it went really good. She is very interested and had a lot of good questions! She is so dang cute. We will be teaching her again this week! Had my first interview with Presidente and it went really good. I speak Spanish to him and he speaks English to me. His English is my favorite! Haha.

Wednesday: Okay Hermana Schroeder and I cannot sing together hahahaha! So we are teaching this sweet lady Pati, who has been baptized and for our lesson we practiced himnos for like 40 minutes and we are still bad. It’s so funny and bad haha goodness me and Hermana Pyatt did so well in the CCM! .... So Maria, her nine year old daughter Nayareth and Alec, I don’t know how much I have talked about them... but they are new investigators and I love them! We just got to know they and we showed them a video and I braided the little girls hair in a fish tail and her mom thought it was beautiful! I love them so much and hope they continue to accept the amazing gospel! Nayareth is the sweetest nine year old I have ever met! She loves hearing what we have to say! I will hopefully get a picture soon!

Friday: We had lunch in the Campo aka Heaven on Earth! The bus ride out is about an hour and it is literally amazing you guys! We had an amazing lunch like always. Then we had about 45 minutes until the bus was going to come and so we got to go down to the ocean and it was so beautiful!! I was dying of happiness, it was such a beautiful day! Also got my first package from home and it felt like Christmas! Thank you Mom! We teach English to amazing kids at the church on Fridays so that is always a good time! I like talking with the kids better than the adults who talk so dang fast!
Saturday: Had a leccion with Jorge. We still have a lot to teach before his baptism, so we go about every other day to his house! Got chased by Ricardo... the meanest dog in the sector haha he hates Hermana Schroeder. It’s funny until its chasing me haha.

Sunday: Sundays are always so good!  We were walking to a leccion and this 50ish year old little guy slows down, rolls his window down and whistles at us and it was so awkward and funny haha. It’s honestly a daily thing here in good ole Chile!
The mission is sooo amazing! Every day I am just so grateful to be aqui in Puerto Montt, on the beautiful coast with amazing people! And I’m a missionary for La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los ultimos Dias.  Study your scriptures and just be happy!! Thank you everyone that writes to me it makes me so happy!!

We have been teaching Jorge about every other night and he is so excited!! I love that man so much... I’m sending a picture! He wants to meet my family so bad, he told me we could Skype at his house, haha. He is so excited to get baptized and attended church Sunday and we were so happy!! His baptism is going to amazing I’m so excited you guys! We have three new investigators... Maria, Nayardj (who is 9) and Alec who is a cousin! We taught them the Plan of Salvation and cute little Nayardj just looked at me and Hermana with so much happy and the Spirit was soooo strong! We asked them to attend church, but they were going to Osorno. So next week we are praying... Tonight we will be teaching them the Restoration! Whoooo! So pumped! I love finding new investigators, it brings me so much happiness teaching people who haven’t even heard of this AMAZING GOSPEL!! Friday I went on exchanges for my first time! Hermana Norton from Lindon, Utah and she is amazing!!!! She taught me so much in just 24 hours! She is amazing and just talks to everyone and we got in like three new houses and met some amazing people!

Southern Chile is so beautiful and green!! A lot of the people here are fishermen for a living! The weather has been amazing and sunny and I’m super grateful for that! Dogs are literally everywhere. I know I haven’t really talked about them, but oh my dogs everywhere!! Haha on Saturday we walked with a family to our church house for a Mother’s Day thing at our church and we were outside of a panadaria and this dog was barking like crazy and I was so nervous haha and then all of sudden Hermana Schroeder just starts laughing like crazy and I was like what... THE DOG PEEDED ON ME!! On my tights and all over my boot! I was sooo mad haha I don’t think I will grow to love the dogs haha they are sooo annoying... haven’t gotten bit yet, I’ll keep you all updated!

It was so amazing to talk to my family on Sunday! I love being a missionary and Chile is seriously the best!! Thank you all for your love and support! I walk so much haha it never stops but I stinkin love it! This gospel is perfect and brings me so much joy! Ready for another week in beautiful Puerto Montt!!

Week 2 in Chile

Hola!!! I can’t believe another week has come and gone!! Time goes soooo fast! This week has been amazing!

Tuesday... I started my first fire! We have to cut all of our wood and start fires every morning because our house gets pretty cold but not to bad! It’s fun to cut the wood, it’s a good workout haha. We started heading to lunch, which was a long walk, and all of a sudden this guy comes up behind us and starts talking to us, and he said he didn’t want to hear about our religion, but he wanted to take us on a date and then he tried to kiss us goodbye and we were dying hahaha. So funny! Hey, maybe he will be an investigator.

Wednesday... I had my first District meeting. Elder Torres is from Peru and one of the happiest Elders ever! We went over to the lady that washed our clothes and when we got to her house she just started crying and we were like what is wrong... and her son in Peru is super sick and her and her daughter were just crying... I felt the Spirit so strong, so I found a scripture and bore my testimony and then Hermana Schroeder said a prayer and the Spirit was so strong. We aren’t just here to find people to teach. I am here on a mission to help everyone. Members, strangers, investigators, my companion, everyone and I love it! Helping comfort them made me soooo happy! I love having the Spirit with me.

Thursday... Walked and tracked and walked and tracked.... I walk a lot of miles and my shoes are already wearing down haha. We found a lot of good contacts! We have a lesson with Maria and her cutest 9 year old daughter. We are way excited and have a very good feeling about them! We were at this park and this guy walks up and asks if we are lost in perfect English... we were like no... And then we just had a long conversation with him and I decided that he is a State hater he had nothing good to say about the United States it bugged me haha... he is very Catholic, but told us we are always welcome to his house if we are scared!

Friday... On Fridays we teach about five kids English at our Church! It is soooo much fun and they bring their parents and none of them know about our Church so we are just warming up to them right now and I love them all! Kati always wants to give us a ride home and she is the best... She loves the United States (a lot of people in my area want to move to the United States) but she tries talking to us the best she can in English and it’s so cute... She loves the NBA and dad you will like this her favorite player was good ole Michael Jordan! I looked at Hermana Schroeder and I said we need to go to her house. So we set up an appointment and she is soooo excited... we are so excited she is amazing you guys! I’m pumped!!!

Saturday... Our investigator Jorge accepted baptism wooot woot! He is about 50 and his daughter is 20 and got baptized about 2 weeks before I got here! We planned it all out last night. We are soooo excited and Jorge is so excited he was smiling so big!! And he came to church on Sunday and was just so happy! We bring him a treat from the bakery and it makes him so happy! Ahhh I’m just so happy for him you can just see his excitement!!

It’s been beautiful and sunny this whole week and it’s supposed to be the middle of winter so #blessed. Everyone uses the word BUENO it’s so funny and so different from Mexico! I’m just so happy here in beautiful Puerto Montt. I love this gospel with my whole heart! I love my Savior Jesus Christ and my loving Heavenly Father with everything inside of me! Be amazing! I love you all!!!!!!
